Orator's Club

CCA Overview

This CCA caters to students who aspire to become confident orators and skilled debaters. Students are trained in three key disciplines — speaking, writing, and debating — through engaging and interactive activities.

Learning And Development

Students develop and apply a wide range of public speaking and debating skills through engaging and interactive training sessions. They learn to think critically, organise their ideas effectively, and respond confidently to unexpected arguments with poise and clarity. Through regular practice, students grow in confidence as articulate communicators who are able to express their viewpoints persuasively and respectfully.

The CCA also emphasises character development and teamwork. Students are expected to demonstrate responsibility towards the club by being self-disciplined, focused, and committed during training sessions. They learn to respect differing perspectives, show empathy towards fellow members, and collaborate effectively with their teammates.

Typical Activities

Each session includes mini-debates where students spar in teams of three or four, providing authentic opportunities to sharpen their reasoning, rebuttal, and delivery skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through these experiences, students develop resilience, quick thinking, and the confidence to communicate effectively both on stage

Opportunities And Experiences

Students are provided with emceeing opportunities in school events as well as national competitions like Wits and Words.

Commitment and Expectations

• Attend all CCA sessions regularly and arrive on time.

• Take part enthusiastically in speaking, debating, research and group activities.

• Be willing to step out of your comfort zone and practise new skills.

• Give your best effort, even when the task is challenging

• Respect different opinions and respond to ideas, not people.

• Encourage and support fellow members, especially those who may be less confident.

• Uphold the values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Empathy.

No special attire required.

Competitive Teams may have 1-2 sessions during the term and semester breaks, as required.
